Buy-in: $50 ($45 to champion’s prize pool, $5 to highest scoring team jackpot)
Fees will be paid by League Safe. Fees MUST be received prior to any draft. Failure to pay a fee may result in termination from the league.
Almost all league maters will be open to a vote by league members. If you want to raise an issue you are free to post a league message on the ESPN league message board and a league poll can be created and voted on. Changes can be made with a majority vote of 60% off the league. The league managers vote will count as 1.5 and all other votes will count as 1.
The following things cannot be changed, or go up for a vote:
- A offline snake draft to start the league and NFL style drafts in following seasons.
- A six-team playoff format
- The league being on ESPN.com
- Not using any type of auction system
- Adding more teams (This will be up to the LM, but cannot be done without the league voting it in.)
- If a trade veto system is voted in, no more than 24 hours will be allowed for a review and no less than 8 votes will be needed for a trade to be cancelled
Drafts
The league start-up draft will be a “slow draft” using My Fantasy League.
You have a maximum time limit of 8 hours to make your picks in each round. (PLEASE don’t take that long. About 20 minutes to an hour per pick is about right. Know when the pick is getting close. You can easily use a pre-rank list on MFL to make your pick.)
(The hours between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. in your own time zone will not count against you.)
IF you fail to make your pick in the allotted amount of time, your pick will be moved down to when you pick next. If you have back-to-back picks and clock out, you will get half the allotted amount of time for the following pick, (so 12 hours if you happen to have the 12 and 13 picks and clock out on the twelfth pick).
IF someone clocks out twice, they get put on auto/ADP/LM-draft. This will be done to ensure that a good team can be drafted for a possible new owner. The draft will likely be paused if a team is vacated before the full roster is drafted, so that a new owner can hopefully be found quickly. If that fails, auto/ADP/LM draft picks can be made. It’s a true last resorts and unlikely to happen.
In future seasons, the draft (rookie/FA) will be 5 rounds (NFL style: last place drafting #1, first place drafting last in R1) and rookies and free agents will be available. The rookie draft order will be determined by final standings after the playoffs for all teams. Trading draft picks in either draft is allowed, even before the start of the start-up draft. If you trade rookie picks for next year you must go ahead and pay ½ of next year’s dues before you can be involved in trading picks. You can receive picks without pre paying but to trade picks you must pay. Rookie/FA drafts will normally start 2 weeks after the NFL draft.
Compensatory draft picks can be awarded by the LM in extreme cases. For example: Owner X has a bad draft, hates his team, hardly updates it, goes 0-13 and quits the league after one season. Now we have an empty team with a weak roster and need to find someone willing to pay $45 for it. We would first try and find an owner that would take the team as is, but if it’s being treated like radioactive waste… that’s where compensatory picks come in. The team would likely already have 1.1 in the draft, but could be awarded an extra pick in say, rounds 2 & 3 (but I would start with a one round offer and only go to two rounds if it was really looking bad) and end up with 1.1, 2.1, 2.2, 3.1, 3.2, 4.1, ect… We would add an extra pick in those rounds. If an existing owner does not agree with compensatory picks that have been given out they are allowed to start a vote to have the picks moved to a lower value round.
30 players is the max you can have on your active roster in this first season. You will also have 2 IR slots to hold injured players. If you place a player on IR you can add a extra player to fill his spot. With your IR filled, it would be all right if your team has 32 players rostered. This league will not have any taxi squad, or other type of extra off-site roster. Just 30 + 2 IR slots.
Trades:
There will be no official trade veto. If you feel strongly that a trade is unfair, please contact the LM. The LM can block a clearly unfair trade (for example; Adrian Peterson for a 3.4 draft pick, or like Calvin Johnson for Mario Manninngham). We will have some highly experienced players in this league and if two of them agree to a trade that should be the end of it.
To confirm a trade, please email the LM and person you traded with. Once the person you traded with replies and confirm the trade, the LM will process it.
Please respond to trade offers in a timely manner. An initial response to the offer should be provided within 24 hours, with a final answer or counter-offer being given within 48 hours of a proposal. Your fellow franchise owner may be looking to trade with another franchise, and unnecessary delays in responding make this difficult. To the best of your ability, offer trades that are equitable and beneficial to all of the franchises involved.
Compete to the best of your franchise's ability, every week of the season. No tanking. No exceptions.
There is a limit of 45 acquisitions per season. This is to prevent teams from constantly adding/dropping players and abusing a system designed to help teams fill needs. 45 is plenty of acquisitions for a team using drop/add normally. The count will begin after the kickoff of the first NFL game each season. There will be no limits during the off-season, after the draft.
League match-ups schedule: The schedule will be found for this league here. This will be the same schedule used every year.
The season will end on week 13. If you do not make the playoffs, your season has ended. ESPN has a consolation bracket, but it’s meaningless to this league.
The top 6 teams by record (1) and points scored (2) will make the playoffs. The top 2 seeds will get first-round byes (like in the NFL).
Estimated league annual calendar:
Early Sept: Start week 1
Late Nov: Trade deadline
Late Dec: Championship game (followed by an off-season from the end of our championship game until the rookie draft. Our new league year will begin and you can make trades immediately after the championship game is over.)
After the NFL draft: Our (rookie/FA) draft will start around 1 week – 2 weeks later
This league is loosely based on the FXX series, The League. It’s a hilarious show and if you haven’t seen it and you love fantasy football you gotta check it out.
Other Important Things:
Besides the 3 week fantasy playoff, player adds/drops will be allowed at ANYTIME.
Once the regular season ends, NO free agents may be added by ANY TEAM NOT IN THE PLAYOFFS.
If a non-playoff team adds a player(s), they will lose a roster spot (per player added) for the upcoming season, leaving them with a 29 player roster instead of the normal 30-player roster. This penalty can also be used in other cases of player misconduct. Further misconduct would likely result in being terminated from the league. Note: I really doubt it will ever come to this, but it’s here just in case. If a team did take a player it would create a mess for playoff teams playing for money
The highest scoring game jackpot will go to whichever team scores the most points in a single game during the season. Each player must put in $5 for this jackpot each season.
There are no tie-breakers during the regular season. If there is a tie in a playoff game, the higher scoring starting QB will break the tie. If the starting QBs tie too… best of 7 rock, paper, scissors on Skype will determine the winner *shrug* Would be astronomical odds that both end in ties. In that case whoever is advanced by ESPN gets the win since ESPN says so. Which brings me to our next point…
We are at the mercy of ESPN.com when it comes to things like the player scores/stats and player positions. I believe all ESPN league scores go final the Saturday evening following an NFL week. Until then the score is subject to a stat correction. If you draft a player that is listed as a RB at ESPN and they are later changed to a WR… sorry, but that can happen. Make sure to know your coaching systems and players.
Q: Why use ESPN.com? MFL is so much more customizable and we are using it for the start-up draft.
A: True, it is. Thing is MFL is not free. We would be looking at everyone needing to toss in about $5 to cover the fee. That’s $70 that no one can win. ESPN is free and I have been running leagues on it for five years. I know the LM tool inside out.
Payout:
The top three finishers each season will finish “in the money.”
1st = $275, 2nd = $165, 3rd = $100
This will also create a $60 jackpot for the high scoring game.
With the money being hosted in League Safe, at the end of the season I will go into my League Safe account and kick off the payments to the individual winners and for their respective amounts and it will email everyone. All you have to do when it emails you is confirm that I am paying the proper people the proper amount. It will pay based on majority ruling.
